Week 1: Showing Up Anyway
3 August – 10 August 2026
There's something different about this week.
I don't feel like I've suddenly become a fitness person. I don't feel transformed. I haven't figured everything out.
But I feel like I've started.
And somehow, that feels really good.
For the longest time, going to the gym was something I kept thinking about - a plan that stayed a plan. This week, I actually made it part of my life. I showed up even on the days I didn't feel like it, even when every part of me wanted to stay in bed instead. And slowly, it stopped feeling like a task and started feeling like a choice I was making for myself, again and again.
Because that's what this really is. A choice to change. Not a one-time decision, but one I have to make every single day.
I've also started paying more attention to my body.
I notice when I'm tired. I notice when I'm getting stronger. I notice when something feels sore. I'm learning the difference between pushing myself and pushing myself too far - something I never really paid attention to before.
There have been moments of soreness where my body has basically screamed, "Okay, that's enough now." And I've felt it in ways I didn't expect - in my legs on the stairs, in my arms lifting something as simple as a cup. But I've shown up anyway. Because I've realised the discomfort isn't a sign to stop. It's just part of the process of becoming someone new.
There's something quietly satisfying about waking up sore and knowing that yesterday, I pushed through something for myself. That even on the hard days, I didn't quit.
My favourite part of this week isn't even the physical progress.
It's the feeling of keeping a promise to myself. Of proving to myself that I can show up, even when it's uncomfortable. Even when it hurts a little. Even when it would be easier not to.
I don't know where this will take me. Maybe I'll get stronger. Maybe I'll get fitter. Maybe I'll surprise myself with what my body can eventually do. But I don't need to know all of that right now.
What I do know is this: I want to change. Not just for a week, not just when it's easy, but every day - through the soreness, through the tiredness, through the moments I don't feel like it.
For this first week, I'm just proud that I started.
And for once, I'm not chasing an instant transformation. I'm choosing to keep showing up for myself, one day at a time, no matter how it feels.
